Double Trouble? |

Double Trouble? Is two more trouble than one? Contrary to what you may think, many mothers of twins think it's easier to potty train two children than it is to train one! Twins can look to each other for support in this learning process, but whether it is easier for you depends on how organized and calm you can be during the process. You certainly need to have your wits about you and be prepared to focus just on the potty training. Leave the housework for another day. Two of everythingOf course, as a mother of twins, you are used to having two of everything and when it comes to potties and potty chairs you might want to get two different sets. This way they can either have two sets of potties that match or two that are different, depending on whether your twins like to have everything exactly the same, or prefer to have something that they can clearly identify as theirs. You certainly don't want them fighting over whose potty is whose, especially when they are both bursting to ‘go' at the same time! You can also purchase more than one set so that your twins can have potties in the bathroom as well as somewhere else in the house. You can even get a spare set to keep at grandma's house. One of eachIf you have a boy and a girl, the girl will often take the lead, partly because girls are frequently ready earlier, and partly because they can be very encouraging to boys. For this reason, some parents of this combination of twins prefer to stagger the training, getting the girl trained first and then the boy after, since he won't want to be outdone by his sister. Two of a kindIf you have two of the same, then girls can be very supportive of one another and learn from and help each other. Boys on the other hand, as you know, can be competitive and this may help in their training as well, as they both may want to be the first one to master the potty. Summer potty trainingIf you have a yard and can let your little darlings run around with just a long T shirt and no underpants, then it's very easy to train in the summer. They will soon get the hang of the toilet without a diaper, pull ups, or underpants to get in the way. One mother of twins said she managed to train her boy and girl in 2 ½ days flat and said it was much easier than when she trained her older boy the year before! Be readyThe main thing is that you need to be ready for this process and be able to devote the necessary time to their toilet training. If they are ready and you are properly prepared, then potty training can be very easy. However, don't try and do it when you have an important presentation at work, or your in-laws are coming to stay!
